‘We’ve got absolutely nothing’ to defend Australia amid growing conflict in China

The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan says the issue with Australia’s nuclear submarines is “we are not going to get them” for many years.

“What really profoundly disturbs me is that Scott Morrison and Peter Dutton tell us quite truthfully that this is the most dangerous strategic environment since the 1930s,” Mr Sheridan advised Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“But after eight years of conservative government, we have produced not one new defence platform.

“Love or hate the French subs, they were real, now my problem with the nuclear subs … we are not going to get them for tens and tens of years on the best possible analysis.

“So that means for the next five or ten years, we’ve got absolutely nothing that we don’t already have and the only thing we’ve said we’re going to acquire is a few more missiles but the government hasn’t told us how many we’re going to get or when we’re going to get them.”
